Last Sunday, Barry’s Best, long-standing four-star horse of Rosie Thomas, had to be euthanised. Barry’s Best lived to be 24 years old. Recently he had developed neurological problems. He was no longer able to get up, his hind legs did no longer work, as Thomas told Horse&Hound. For the British rider the gelding was her first and only four-star horse – but a great one. They finished Burghley five times and stayed in the alloted time for the cross country three times. They finished Badminton four times and Luhmühlen once. Their best results were place nine and place thirteen in Burghley. In 2013 the Tehran Missile son was retired from the big sport and then served as schoolmaster for the daughter of owner Nicky Cooper.
