Last April, Danish dressage rider Andreas Helgstrand was indicted of animal cruelty after he was accused of having ridden his horse Akeem Foldager with excessive use of spurs and the horse displaying a blue tongue during an open house presentation. At the end of November, he was acquitted by the court. However, the Danish federation conducted their own investigation and now warned the rider. Their verdict states that Helgstrand had applied “improper use of bit and bridle”. The warning includes the obligation that there must not be another incident of this kind, otherwise the federation would reconsider their punishment. Now Helgstrand is allowed to start with the team again.
