We can slowly start to call him „wonder horse“ again. The performance of Matthias Rath and Totilas in Aachen in the Grand Prix and the Special deserved to be admired and before Aachen no one would ever had thought they would win twice in this competition. The couple achieved 84.549 percent and could thus repeatedly beat the British rider Charlotte Dujardin with Valegro who achieved 83.157 percent. Once again the double Olympic winners made mistakes in the changes. But his time Carl Hester’s student didn’t lose her head. However, she didn’t managed to occupy the leading postion.
Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff, Matthias Rath’s stepmother and Totilas’ owner as well, were enthusiastic: “It is fantastic that Matthias and Totilas manage to be that successful here. They have had two hard years. It is great that Matthias didn’t give up.“ Monica Theodorescu, the federal coach, also said proudly: „It was brilliant today. Not only Totilas but also our other horses have convinced me. All horses have improved in comparison to the Grand Prix.“
Damon Hill and Helen Langehanenberg had a rhythm error in the extended trot. But otherwise the couple showed an errorless round and won 82.087 percent and thus finished third. Isabell Werth and her Bella Rose achieved more than 80 percent (81.471 percent). They had one error in the two-tempi changes but this doesn’t prevent the rider of the chestnut mare from smiling. ”Her time will come provided that she will stay healthy.”
Tomorrow there will be the freestyle on the agenda for the 15 couples. Matthias Rath and Totilas won’t show up there anyway. They have retreated from the freestyle since both are still in the establishment phase.
