The Linsenhoff-Rath family decided in agreement with co-owner Paul Schockemöhle to retire black stallion Totilas from the active dressage sport. Today, the family announced this decision in an official press release.
Last week Totilas still was part of the German dressage équipe who won bronze at the European Championships in Aachen. A bone edema, diagnosed after the Grand Prix led to the decision to withdraw the horse from the event.
The press release states: “As already known from various sources an examination last weekend showed that Totilas has a bone edema. […] Due to this new injury we collectively came to the decision against the active sport. Totilas will not come back into the competitive sport in the future.”
Dr. Dennis Peiler, managing director of the DOKR said about the decision: ” It certainly wasn’t an easy decision for the family, but we think it is wise and correct. Unfortunately, Matthias Alexander Rath and Totilas’ sports career has always been ill-fated. We wish for a fast recovery for the horse and for Matthias that he will soon be able to catch up with the top with his young horses.”
