Thomas Frühmann will say goodbye to the active sport during the Global Champions Tour. The Austrian show jumper and his horse The Sixth Sense will retire together, so the Austrian newspaper Der Standard announced online. The 20-year-old gelding once was elected best show jumping horse of the world and Frühmann is one of the must successful riders in his couny. In 1990 he and Grandeur were the first Austrian pair to win the Grand Prix of Aachen. In 1992 at the Olympic Games in Barcelona Genius and he won individual silver and at the World Cup Final in Del Mar, USA, he was victorious.
Frühmann is now aged 65 and last rode a horse in January. He didn’t miss anything, he said, but also doesn’t rule out a comeback if he would be as lucky as to find another great horse like Sense. But he thinks he will rather develop young horses and support talented young riders.
