Ireland to Replace Ukraine at the Olympic Games?

There is news in the corruption case of Alexander Onischenko. As already reported the Ukrainian had parliamentary immunity due to his function as member of the parliament. Now the immunity has been lifted. Therefore the chances for the Ukrainian team for the Olympics are considerably worse. Ihor Zhdanov, minister of youth and sport in the Ukraine, said that he would not promise that Onischenko would be part of the Olympic team: “A man who is a suspect in a corruption scandal cannot represent the Ukraine at the Olympics,” so Zhdanov.
Therefore it is not clear what will happen with the team, however, the St. Georg has learned that Paul Schockemöhle has bought 44 horses from Onischenko, and that he will try to enable the Ukrainian riders to compete at the Olympic Games.  In case that the Ukraine is not eligible to enter the Olympic Games a last-minute team could be appointed – this would be the Irish team. As yet only Greg Broderick has been named as sole rider for Ireland.
