Rien van der Schaft Resigns as Dutch Bondscoach Just Before Tryon

In 2016 Rien van der Schaft took over as Dutch dressage Bondscoach when Wim Ernes was diagnosed with cancer. Now – just before the World Equestrian Games- the 64-year-old has resigned. He explained that the tasks as coach of the seniors did not suit him. Therefore he had decided to resign.  “I always had most fun and the best challenges while training young horses and riders.”, so van der Schaft.
Maarten van der Heijden, technical director of the KNHS said: “It is unfortunate that we were not successful and that the timing is wrong for Tryon. But top sport means to make decisions. In order to deliver at this level everything needs to be perfect. It is a pity for all parties involved that the cooperation did not work as we intended. The dressage team now will focus on delivering  great performances and hopes to be able to do this calmly.”
In agreement with the riders it was decided not to recruit an interim coach.
