Philipp Weishaupt: Still Chances to Win a Medal

The Final of the show-jumping competition is extremely exciting. Even on the last day the course designer managed it to provoke various mistakes at numerous fences. That’s how it should be.
From day one Swedish Peder Fredricson showed his strength and is still in the lead just before the last round. He and H&M All In by Kashmir van Schuttershof is ranked first with zero penalty points ahead of Irish Cian O’Connor with Belgian stallion Good Luck by Cancturo-Furioso II (2,25 points) and Dutch Harrie Smolders with Zangersheide stallion Don VHP Z by Diamant de Demilly-Voltaire (5,52 points).
Philipp Weishaupt improved some places due to a clear round. He and Holsteiner stallion Convall by Colman-Cascavelle is currently ranked fifth with 6,73 points.  “I can just hope that the others will make mistakes,” Weishaupt said. “Convall is in great form.”
Marcus Ehning and Selle Francais gelding Pret A Tout fell back to pace ten. One mistake at the last fence of the triple combination wrecked his hope for a medal. “It was good but not good enough. One mistake in the EC Final is one mistake too much.”
Laura Klaphake, who will not be allowed to compete in the second round, but delivered a clear round, was happy: “I am so proud of Catch Me If You Can,” she said about her mare. “She is only 9 years old but I feel we have improved every day.”
