After Mark Philipps has resigned as bond coach of the Belgian Eventing National Team at the end of last year, the federation now is pleased to announce his successor: Marc Rigouts. Over the last weeks, a commission had tried to develop a profile for the new trainer together with the Belgian eventing riders. Marc Rigout fitted the role best in regard to his experience, technical knowledge, availability, accessibility, style of communication and horsemanship. The multiple times Belgian Champion (now aged 56) was coach of the Dutch National Team in 1993 and 1994 and already led the Belgian Team to the Olympic Games of Sydney and Athens. However, at the Olympic Games in London he himself was competing for Belgium.
From now on, Rigouts will be in charge of the senior cadre, from the lowest to the highest level. The focus for 2015 is the Olympic qualification for Rio, which requires a successful competition at the European Championship in Blair Castle. At the end of January, the new coach and the technical commission have scheduled a meeting in order to determine a strategy for the year.
