Laura Klaphake & Catch me if you can

Laura Klaphake: “Originally I had a good feeling”

Perhaps German national coach Otto Becker will ask himself in retrospect if his decision to have the two newcomers of the German show-jumping team start first. The first pair, Maurice Tebbel and Chacco’s Son had two fences down, and now Laura Klaphake and 9-year-old Oldenburger mare Catch Me If You Can by Catoki-Acordplus also finished with eight penalty points. The penalty points – it is a timed competition will be converted into four seconds each, but the Germans now are lagging far behind. “Originally I had a good feeling,” Klaphake said after her round. “Perhaps I was too close to the water, then I had the mistake and at the plank I also had one canter stride too much. Before and after that my horse jumped great. The mistakes are my fault.”
The 23-year-old said she had not been nervous. A mistake happened so fast and with fences of this height one was not allowed to make any mistakes. However, Klaphake is still optimistic: “Our two stronger riders will come later. And I have participated at 8 championships and every time the competition was decided in the last round. And there are still three rounds left.”
