Kyrklund’s Max Has Died

Max, Swedish gelding by Master /Alpen Fürst had to be put to sleep at age 22. Max, former Grand Prix horse of Finnish dressage rider Kyra Kyrklund suffered from bone cancer. Kyrklund an Max were placed seventh at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen in the freestyle, fourth at the 2007 World Cup Final at Las Vegas, third at the 2008 World Cup Final at Den Bosch, sixth at the Olympic Games in Hong Kong and seventh at the 2009 European Championship in Windsor. In 2009 Max was retired from the sport at age 14 and enjoyed his retirement at his rider’s place in Great Britain. Kyrklund told eurodressage.com that they had only found out on Monday that the horse had cancer. They had hoped the horse had some positive months left, but the cancer was fast and aggressive. Max could not eat his hay any more and so they decided to put him to sleep at his favourite location.
