Last year the smile in Jan-Dirk Gießelmann’s face was big when he was able to win the Freestyle in the Frankfurter Festhalle with Real Dancer. This year he was able to repeat his success. He and the 13-year-old gelding once again were at the top of the competition with 76,000 percent. For him, the victory was completely unexpected: “I thought the performance was a bit better than last year but I never would have expected to win the competition again.” Third place went to Heiner Schiergen with Oldenburger gelding Discovery OLD by Dimaggio/Classiker (74,750 percent). It was only the third international event Schiergen and the Oldenburg attended. Last year they were placed fifth in the final of the Louisdor Prize.
Hubertus Schmidt would have expected more than the result of 74,325 percent that he and Trakehner stallion Imperio received. They finished third. “Today he was going completely wild during the warm up,” Schmidt said. “He had been that way last when he was eight or nine years old. I was happy to have been able to steer him through the competition like that. However, usually I have different expectations.”
