Fox-Pitt’s Idalgo Has Died

At age 22 William Fox-Pitt’s Idalgo had to be euthanised. Last Friday the French gelding fell ill so suddenly that another decision could not be made.
In 2009 Idalgo, called “Frog” was part of the successful EC team, and Fox-Pitt and he were placed second in Badminton. The gelding was retired from the sport in 2010 and enjoyed his retirement at Alex van Tuyll’s stable, who had worked with Fox-Pitt earlier.
Idalgo was introduced to the sport by French Nicolas Touzaint. William Fox-Pitt took over in 2003 and in the same year the pair was placed fifth at the World Championship of the young eventing horses. One year later they finished second at the CCI3* in Bramham, later they won the CIC3* in Burnham Market. In 2008 they had their four-star debut in Burghley.
