Before the German Championship in Balve almost nobody would have guessed the outcome: Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD are champions in the Special. Already yesterday in the Grand Prix Werth’s result was close to Bröring-Sprehe’s, but now she won. However, this was also partly due to the fact that the Hanoverian stallion Desperados FRH by De Niro turned around at the beginning of the competition. Bröring-Sprehe and Desperados finished in third place (81,922 percent) while Werth and Weihegold OLD won gold with 84,294 percent. Second place was also a surprise: Dorothee Schneider and Showtime performed even better than in the Grand Prix and won silver (83,176 percent).
Additionally to winning gold Werth also was placed fourth with Emilio and 81,098 percent just ahead of Sönke Rothenberger with Cosmo. Sixth place went to Hubertus Schmid and Imperio, seventh place to Jessica von Bredow-Werndl with Unee BB, eighth place to Anabel Balkenhol and Dablino and Fabienne Lütkemeier and D’Agostino finished in ninth place.
Now the dressage committee should draw a deep breath – in the case that all horses stay healthy their choice for the Olympic Games in Rio is bigger than ever and the newcomers (or newcomer horses) have done their homework. It will be exciting to see who will be allowed to compete in the big tour in Aachen and who will make it to Theodorescu’s Olympic squad.
