Mid December Swiss Willi Melliger was admitted to a hospital due to a stroke, later he was transferred to a special clinic. Now the Schweizer Pferdewoche announced the death of the former world class show-jumper. The winner of Olympic medals from Neuendorf died age 64.
He and his grey horse Calvaro won Olympic silver two times, in the individual rating in Atlanta 1996 and four years later team silver in Sydney. Furthermore they won team gold at the 1995 EC as well as individual bronze at the 1995 and 1997 ECs. They also won numerous Grand Prix. Willi Mellinger will live on as a legend, because with his 13 EC medals he his the most successful Swiss show-jumper to date.
