Walter Gabathuler & Chagrannus

Walther Gabathuler’s Chagrannus Could not be Helped

On Saturday afternoon, Walter Gabathuler’s 13-year-old OS stallion sustained an injury in the timed show-jumping class at the CSI Basel and could no longer walk. The horse was examined by a veterinarian on the spot and then brought to the animal clinic in Zurich. There he was diagnosed with a comminuted fracture without a chance for recovery. Therefore the Chacco Blue son owned by one of the event’s founders, Thomas Straumann, could not be helped. He had to be euthanized. The Straumann family is shocked but said that the accident was not the rider’s fault.
