Valegro’s first victory in Aachen – and the German team for the World Equestrian Games

What a quality in the stadium of Deutsche Bank at the final freestyle: Eight couples achieved more than 80 percent. On top of all: Valegro. Was it because Totilas was not among the participants? Maybe. In fact, the KWPN gelding showed a flaw people weren’t used to: mistakes in changes. And yet the friendly couple knew how to convince and achieved 87.900 percent. The rider from Britain concluded: “ I haven’t had such a good start. I have never made so many mistakes. That is really embarassing. This has made me feel even more insecure. But that’s life. Everybody makes mistakes and I am not perfect and Valegro either.

Helen Langehaneberg and her stallion Damon Hill made a mistake as well. They, too, had mistakes in the changes. In the end they achieved 86.025. The rider explained: „ I have made a shorter warm-up as it was so hot. Consequently Damon Hill was very fresh. Now I am looking forward to the World Equestrian Games.“

Isabell Werth should also be looking forward to this event. For the first time she presented her freestyle with the chestnut mare Bella Rose. The freestyle had been completed shortly before Aachen and was rewarded with 85.150 percent. A performance which made people feel enthusiastic once again. Now everybody is eager to see the future development of this couple. And when it is about the Word Equestrian Games: Although the German dressage committee only wanted to announce the long list after Aachen, it decided to announce the participants for the World Equestrian Games earlier than intended. The German team will be made up by the participants of the Nations Cup of Aachen: Matthias Rath/Totilas, Helen Langehanenberg/Damon Hill, Isabell Werth/Bella Rose, Kristina Sprehe/Desperados.
