The Ukrainian chef d’équipe Markus Fuchs has voiced his opinion about the participation of the Ukrainian team at the Olympic Games to the Schweizer Pferdewoche. After it became known yesterday that the immunity of team captain Alexander Onischenko was to be lifted due to corruption allegations and that 44 horses were sold to Paul Schockemöhle, Fuchs said that this had happened for safety reasons. In cases like these horses often would get confiscated and they wanted to prevent that. Furthermore the Swiss believes that his team will be able to compete in Rio. “From a sporting perspective there is nothing to be said against the participation of the Ukrainian team.” Rene Tebbel, Ulrich Kirchhoff, Cassio Rivetti and Ferenc Szentirmai were ready and well prepared. However, it is unclear if the Ukrainians are eligible to enter the competition since horses have to be owned by the nation which they represent to be able to compete at the Olympic Games. If the horses of the team members are part of the 44 horses who Schokemöhle bought is of yet still unknown.
