Sanne Thijssen’s Suspension Repealed

It was a bit unusual when it became known this week that Sanne Thijssen’s horse Sara Galotière who died in Liverpool had tested positive for doping and that the rider would be suspended with immediate effect. The substance found in the horse’s body -Ketamine- is an anaesthetic that is used for euthanising horses. Now veterinarian Matthew O’Donell, who euthanised the mare, explained that he had given her ketamine prior to the euthanasia in order to calm her. What a misunderstanding! The FEI has repealed the suspension.
