Prize of Europe: Eric Lamaze’s Plan Pays Off

When he had won the Prize of Europe at the CHIO Aachen Eric Lamaze (CAN) said that he had had a plan from the beginning. And this plan had been to win the competition. He and Fine Lady, the Hanoverian mare with whom he won bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio, won in the jump-off with 20 participants. The top five pairs all finished their round within a second. Second place went to German Ludger Beerbaum and Holsteiner mare Chiara by Contender, third place went to Irish Bertram Allen with Molly Malone V.
Lamaze had an explanation for the many participants in the jump-off: “The best riders in the world are here. And the horses all jumped well.” Ludger Beerbaum thought that the interruption due to a thunderstorm was the right decision: “It was fair. For some pairs the circumstances weren’t so nice. I was lucky since I was still under the roof when the thunderstorm began. But the hosts reacted in the best way possible.”
