Paul and Albert Sprehe Accused of Tax Evasion

According to Nordwest-Zeitung online, brothers Albert and Paul Sprehe are indicted for tax evasion amounting to millions of Euro at the district court in Bielefeld. The directors of the Sprehe company are accused of having paid the salaries of employees of the soccer clubs SV Wilhelmshaven and FC Schüttorf by use of two companies located in Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the years 2003 to 2008. However, the salaries apparently have not been recorded as salaries, but instead as business expenses. According to a disclosure of the district court, this is supposed to have resulted in a reduction of the trade and income tax amounting to 1,8 million Euro.
The start of the trial was supposed to be on Tuesday, but was postponed due to illness of the judge.
