Olympic Winner Bill Steinkraus Has Passed Away

On November, 29 William C. “Bill” Steinkraus has died at age 92. Steinkraus won individual gold at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City with Snowbound. He also won team silver at the 1960 and 1972 Olympic Games in Rome and Munich as well as team bronze at the Olympic Games on Hollandia, Helsinki. Between 1952 and 1972 Steinkraus attended five Olympic Games for the US; he was one of the most successful show-jumpers of all times. For his country he attended numerous Nations Cups. In 1972, the rider gave up his career but continued in administrative positions. In 1973 he became president of the US equestrian federation and judged competitions up to Olympic Games. Furthermore he was president of the FEI World Cup Committee for more than 10 years.
