What a furious start of the year for 33-year-old Niels Bruynseels in Basel: The Belgian show-jumper from Bonheiden won one of the most lucrative Grand Prix of the indoor season. For his victory with 11-year-old Belgian mare Ganica de Muze by Malito de Reve/Nimmerdor the rider got 100,000 Swiss Francs. Bruynseels who works for his father’s selling stable and the mare already attracted attention when they recently were placed fourth in the Grand Prix of Mechelen and one won competition at each Geneva, Maastricht and Bruxelles. In October the pair won the Grand Prix of Helsinki. However, their success in Basel tops all their previous successes. British rider John Whitaker with 12-year-old Holsteiner mare Ornelaia by For Pleasure/Calato were placed second; Australian Edwina Tops-Alexander and 14-year-old Campbell daughter Lintea Tequila finished in third place.
