Mechelen Looses Five-Star Status

In 2012 the Mechelen Christmas Horse Show, Belgium, already lost its World Cup Status for dressage – the FEI’s argumentation was that the World Cups in Frankfurt and London were at roughly the same time. However, the event kept its five stars since one stage of the World Dressage Masters series took place there. Due to financial difficulties the CDI now has to be reduced to four-star level. Peter Bollen, show director in Mechelen, told Eurodressage that the World Dressage Masters has not yet fully paid their sponsor engagement for 2015 and has not yet found enough sponsors for 2016. Therefore, so Bollen, the agreement that still is in place for 2016 will end. Since the event is not able to find enough sponsors for a five-star-event in such a short time period they changed the event to a four-star event. If no adequate main sponsor can be found the future of dressage at Mechelen is at stake.
