Selle Francais stallion Baloubet du Rouet, who became a legend under Rodrigo Pessoa and as a breeding stud, lives no longer. The Galoubet A son has died at age 28. Rodrigo Pessoa who won Olympic gold with the stallion in 2004 said: “He had a great career a great retirement and a beatiful life. He lived a full life.”
The chestnut horse was considered to be extremely athletic and was also known for his personality and his dominance in the sport. When he was six he already won the World Championship of the young show-jumping horses, when he was seven he became French champion under Rodrigo’s father Nelson Pessoa. After the 1998 WEG Rodrigo Pessoa took over the ride of the exceptional horse. In 2000 the pair won bronze in Sydney, four years later gold. Impressive were also the subsequent World Cup victories in 1998, 1999 and 2000. As yet no other horse was able to beat this result. In 2012 Baloubet du Rouet was elected leading stud of the show-jumping horses.
