Having the Olympic Games take place in their home country – a dream come true for most Germans. However, apparently not for the majority of the inhabitants of Hamburg. They decided in a referendum with a majority of 51,6 % that the 2024 Olympic Games will not take place in the Hanseatic city. There was great interest in the referendum – compared to other referendums the number of people who voted was greater. About 50% of the inhabitants voted for or against the Olympic Games in Hamburg. In Luhmühlen people were disappointed about the result of the referendum – the eventing competitions would have taken place there.
