Janika Sprunger: Unlucky Fourth of the Swiss Team

In Rio a  rather unlikely case arose for the Swiss Team: All four riders – Steve Guerdat, Romain Duguet, Martin Fuchs and Janika Sprunger – had the same penalty point score after three rounds. The rules state that only three riders of a nation are allowed to compete for individual ratings, the three best. In case of a draw the chef d’équipe has to decide who will be allowed to compete. A decision nobody wants to have to make. Officially, the decision will be made after tomorrow’s training, but  Janika Sprunger already stated on her Facebook page that she would have wished so much to compete Bonne Chance in the individual rating, but that chef d’équipe Andy Kistler had made a preliminary decision against her. “It’s a difficult moment for all of us since Bonnie and I really would have deserved to compete for an individual medal –  but the others also deserve it.”
