Hubertus Schmidt’s 11-year-old Grand Prix horse, Westphalian gelding Sammy Deluxe by Sir Donnerhall/Florestan, had to be euthanised after he had broken his leg in the stable. The gelding came to Schmidt’s barn in 2012, where Marcus Hermes developed him to S-level. In 2013 Schmidt took over his ride and competed him in St. Georg competitions. In 2014 the pair reached the Louisdor Cup Final in Frankfurt. Their last competition was Munich in 2015. Until recently, Sammy Deluxe was competed by Schmidt’s assistant instructor Ivan Nieto Sanchez; they won the Grand Prix and Special in Zierow in April.
The accident happened after an operation on the splint bone. The gelding wanted to get up, slipped and fell, breaking his leg.
