Martin Fuchs & Clooney

Eventually: First Swiss Victory in the Grand Prix of Basel

For eight years Switzerland did not win one of the two main competitions at the CSI Basel. The Golden Drum and the Grand Prix always were won by riders from other countries. However, this year Switzerland achieved the double victory. The Golden Drum went to Werner Muff, and the Longines Grand Prix was a decision between two Swiss riders in the end. It was again Werner Muff with his talented Daimler, a 10-year-old KWPN gelding, who was close to victory and provided a great performance in the second in only 39,64 seconds. However, 25-year-old Martin Fuchs and Cornet Obolensky son Clooney took the turns a bit narrower and were almost a second faster which caused them to win 25,000 Swiss Francs. Martin Fuchs was so happy that he threw his helmet into the air and let the audience celebrate.  Fuchs ahead of Muff – it could not have been better. French Simon Delestre and 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding Chesall Zimequest by Casall finished in third place.
