It’s almost unbelievable, but it’s true that Marcus Ehning has not been Rider of the Year yet. Over the course of 16 years he was five times in second place and two times in third. However, this year it worked. Sixth place with 10-year-old mare Cristy at the Grand Prix of the DKB Munich Indoors was enough to have Ehning win the overall ranking of the DKB riders tour with 61 points. Andre Thieme was placed second with 52 points and Philip Rüping third with 43 points. “It’s nice that I’ve won,” so the winner said, “but 5 second places and 2 third places show that I wasn’t too bad before.” Ehning (as well as the riders in second and third place) went home with a new Maserati Ghibli.
The victory in the Grand Prix went to Maximilian Schmid and Chacco Blue son Cacon – a home victory for the rider from Bavaria. “I put all my eggs in one basket and went full risk. My horse is really fast, I can rely on that. It’s the biggest success of my career and it happened in front of a home crowd who was so happy for me, that was great.” Austrian Christian Rhomberg and Saphyr Des Lacs finished in second place, third place went to Mario Stevens (GER) and Brooklyn.
