Yesterday, the newly appointed trainer of the Belgian show-jumping national team, Dirk Demeersman held a meeting for the top riders of his country in order to introduce his ideas and plans for the year 2015.
He made one thing clear: the Olympic Qualification for Rio 2016 is the only thing that counts. In oder to achieve the qualification, the Belgian team needs to be one of the best three teams at the European Championship in Aachen that are not qualified yet (already qualified are the Netherlands, France, Germany and Sweden). Demeersman also made a new plan for the recruitment of team members: for the A cadre, all results from Nations Cups and Grand Prix at three to five star tournaments during the last twelve months count into the qualification. The ten best results from Nations Cups and Grand Prix at four to five star level are taken into account – amongst them the riders have to have achieved at least four clear rounds and six rounds with a maximum of four penalty points.
The current A cadre consists of the following pairs:
Niels Bruynseels – Pommeau du Heup
Pieter Devos – Dream of India Greenfield
Olivier Philippaerts – Cabrio Van De Heffinck
Constant Van Paesschen – Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle
Jos Verlooy – Domino
Gregory Wathelet – Conrad de Hus
