In 2018, the Mercedes CSI, a stage of the World Cup, will take place for the last time. Now the CSI Basel wants to become a stage of the World Cup. Willy Bürgin, OK president of the five-star event near the German border, is said to have told the SRF that they had placed an inquiry with the FEI. An agreement with the event’s main sponsors is already in place. Bürgin said he thought Switzerland needed a World Cup event – and Basel had the perfect infrastructure. In 2019 the World Cup stage could take place in Basel. Andy Kistler, Chef d’Équipe also thinks that it is crucial to have a stage of the World Cup in Switzerland, which guarantees starting places for the Swiss riders.
