She already competed in the Derby several times and also finished in second place more than once, but this year Anabel Balkenhol (GER) was finally able to achieve the victory. She won in the Grand Prix with horse change with an average of 7,549 percent ahead of Spanish Morgan Barbancon Mestre (71,569 percent) and Russian Inessa Merkulova (69,275 percent). Best horse by far was Inessa Merkulova’s horse Mister X, who had the best average result with all riders – 76,804 percent. Second best horse was Morgan Barbancon Mestre’s horse Vitana V(69,922 percent), Anabel Balkenhol’s horse Rockefellers Cinderella followed in third place.
“It was so much fun, ” the Derby winner ANabel Balkenhol said. “The horses in the finals were great, they were good to ride.” However, she admitted that she did not make it easy for her opponents: “Probably I was not easy on both the other riders with Rockefellers Cinderella, she just does not have the routine yet.”
Trakehner gelding Mister X received much praise. His rider Inessa Merkulova told: “I’m riding Mister X on my own, he never has a rider beside me, but I know that the riders here are good and I am very proud of him.”
