US Rider Now Competing for Great Britain

As yet 18-year-old Emily Moffitt, who was born in California and has dual citizenship, competed for the US. Now,  however, she has decided to wear the Union Jack instead. Her debut in a senior Nations Cup will take place in March. The young rider who is trained by Ben Maher is ambitious: her big goal is Tokyo 2020. Currently Moffitt and her coach are in Wellington at the Winter Equestrian Festival, together with British Sam Hutton, Jessica Mendoza and Amanda Derbyshire. The rider told Horse&Hound that she had only few opportunities for American teams. Her father and her had already been working towards 2020 for some time but she did not have the feeling that she moved forward. Therefore something had to be changed.
At first her mother, an American, was against the idea of her daughter competing for Great Britain. But Moffitt lives in England and says she feels more British. Therefore her British father and she had persuaded her mother after a meting with the British chef d’équipe Di Lampard. Moffitt says she really liked the team spirit. Her British team debut has happened sooner than she expected – she will ride 10-year-old Hilfiger Van de Olmenhoeve.
